[KAZIMA AND CARMEN'S BEDROOM. KAZIMA IS SITTING ON HER BED READING A MAGAZINE AND MIKE IS IN THE DOORWAY.]
Mike: I'm sorry about this, Kazima. But they only gave us so many tickets and what with finances being the way that they are at the moment...
Kazima: It's OK, Mike.
Mike: Are you sure that you're not just saying that? Coz we can always rethink who's going.
Kazima: It's OK, 100%
Mike: Oh, thank you. The others will be really pleased to hear that.
[THE CAMERA PANS TO SHOW THE OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE HALLWAY, HIGH FIVING EACH OTHER OVER WHAT KAZIMA SAID.]
Mike: That's really grown up of you, thank you.
[THE KITCHEN. MIKE IS CRANING IS HEAD OVER THE KITCHEN TABLE AND THE KIDS (EXCEPT KAZIMA) ARE EITHER STANDING OR SITTING AROUND IT.]
Kids: (arguing in the background)
[MIKE IGNORES HER.]
Bailey: It's Thornley Towers, mate! It's like the best adventure park ever!
Johnny: Forget it, Bailey.
May-Li: You can't count!
Mike: (removes his glasses) What do you mean?
May-Li: You're another ticket short! It means someone else'll have to miss out.
[THE KIDS SUDDENLY GO QUIET]
[THE LOUNGE. THE KIDS (EXCEPT KAZIMA) ARE ALL SITTING IN A CIRCLE WITH CARDS STUCK TO THEIR HEADS. THE CAMERA PANS ROUND TO SHOW THEM ONE BY ONE, LAUGHING THEIR HEADS OFF. WHEN THEN SEE THAT THEY ARE LAUGHING TO TONI (WHO IS THE ONLY ONE NOT LAUGHING) LOOKING GLUM, WHO HAS THE TWO OF DIAMONDS STUCK TO HER HEAD - THE CARD WITH THE SMALLEST NUMBER, MEANING SHE WILL NOT BE GOING. MIKE AND MAY-LI CROUCH DOWN BEHIND TONI.]
Mike: Oh Toni. I'm sorry, kid. But it was the fairest way to do it. Lowest card loses.
May-Li: (puts her hand on Toni's shoulder) Next time, Toni. I promise, yeah.
[KITCHEN. MAY-LI LOCKS THE BACK DOOR AND TESTS THE HANDLE TO MAKE SURE IT CANNOT BE OPENED. TONI AND BILLIE ARE SITTING AT THE TABLE, TEE IS STANDING BEHIND THEM. MIKE ENTERS.]
Mike: That's Mischief sorted, gone to the dog sitter's. Little traitor couldn't wait to get in there.
[TEE PUTS HER HAND ON TONI'S BACK.]
Tee: Cheer up, Toni. It'll probably rain anyway.
[MIKE TAKES A SEAT AT THE TABLE.]
Billie: We've never been to a place like that. Never. And she's going to be all on her own without me.
Mike: (to Toni) Kazima's going to take care of you, OK? You're going to have a fantastic time at the holiday club. I promise you.
[TONI IS UNCONVINCED. TEE TAKES A BREATH.]
[THE OFFICE. FLOSS IS USING THE PHONE TO WIN TICKETS TO A ONE DIRECTION CONCERT. ON THE DESK IS A DOLL.]
Woman on phone: You are caller number 314 in the One Direction golden ticket draw. Please hold until we connect you.
Carmen: Move it, Floss! Move it!
Doll: (repeating Carmen) Move it, Floss! Move it! Move it, Floss! Move it!
[SMILING, FLOSS GETS UP FROM THE CHAIR. CARMEN IS UNNVERVED AND WALKS AWAY WITH FLOSS.]
Woman on phone: ...caller number 314 in the One Direction golden...
[IN THE HALLWAY, UPSTAIRS, TONI IS SITTING ON THE STEPS, UPSET. TEE COMES UP FROM ANOTHER FLIGHT OF STAIRS AND SITS NEXT TO TONI.]
Toni: Go away, Tee.
Tee: Here, have my ticket.
Toni: (excited) Really? You're the best, you're the best ever! Now I can be with Billie! (gets up and goes)
[OUTSIDE THE HOLIDAY CAMP BUILDING. MIKE IS WALKING WITH KAZIMA AND TEE.]
Mike: It's not Thornley Towers, but, it should be good fun, eh?
[KAZIMA SHRUGS. TEE SMILES. THEY ENTER THE BUILDING AND EVENTUALLY THE ROOM WHERE THE HOLIDAY CLUB IS BEING HELD. THE ROOM IS FILLED WITH NUMEROUS YOUNG CHILDREN AND ADULTS AND THE KIDS ARE GREETED BY A MIME.]
Tee: It's a mime. I hate mimes.
Mike: (to a red haired lady) Two more for the holiday club!
[THE RED HAIRED LADY GESTURES AT MIKE, UNDERSTANDING HIM.]
Mike: (to Kazima and Tee) I'll pick you up at five on the dot. OK? Enjoy!
[THE MIME MAKES RIDICULOUS GESTURES. THE RED HAIRED LADY BRINGS KAZIMA AND CARMEN STICKERS WITH THEIR NAMES ON THEM, WHICH THEY PUT ON. KAZIMA PUTS HER BAG DOWN ON A TABLE AND THE GIRLS GO TO SIT AT ANOTHER TABLE.]
[LATER, KAZIMA IS PLAYING CHEQUERS AGAINST A SMALL BOY WEARING GLASSES. TEE IS SITTING AT ANOTHER TABLE WITH TWO GIRLS WHO ARE DOING PAINTING.]
Tee: (to Kazima) How long have we been here?
Kazima: Feels like a year. Might be wrong, though. Could be two.
[A TEENAGE GIRL AND BOY (MAZ AND MAX, RESPECTIVELY) DART INTO THE ROOM. MAX IS HOLDING A BROWN PAPER PACKAGE IN HIS RIGHT HAND.]
Maz: Ditch the package and hide.
[SHE RUNS OFF TO THE LADIES TOILET. MAX DECIDES TO HIDE THE PACKAGE IN KAZIMA'S BAG AND GOES TO HIDE IN THE TOILET AS WELL.]
Girl (Maz?): (to Max) Ugh! Get out! Urgh!
[MAX DARTS OUT OF TOILET. HE SEES A POLICEMAN THROUGH THE GLASS OF ANOTHER DOOR, TAKES OFF HIS HAT, DARTS OVER TO A YOUNG BOY AND SNATCHES THE BOY'S RACKET. THE POLICEMAN ENTERS AND DOES NOT SEE MAX, WHO IS NOW PLAYING SOMETHING RESEMBLING TENNIS.]
Kazima: (to Tee, having spotted the policeman) Do you think he's real, or all part of the fun?
[THE POLICEMAN IS TALKING TO THE LADY. HE HAS STILL NOT NOTICED MAX, STILL PLAYING TENNIS. KAZIMA TAKES OFF HER STICKER AND GETS UP.]
Tee: What are you doing?
Kazima: I'm going home.
Tee: (gets up) Well you can't do that because Mike said we had to be here at five.
Kazima: And I'll be back by then. Not any time before.
[SHE TAKES HER BAG AND MAX NOTICES THIS.]
Tee: It'll get better. They've got dodgeball later.
Kazima: And I'm dodging it. (slings bag onto her shoulder) If you change your mind, I might be in the bath, so I'll leave my key under the flowerpot.
Tee: Why would I change my mind? It's brilliant here.
[KAZIMA LEAVES, AND MAX IS NOT HAPPY]
[OUTSIDE OF ASHDENE RIDGE, KAZIMA ARRIVES, OPENS THE DOOR AND LEAVES THE KEY UNDER THE FLOWERPOT.]
[TEE IS LEFT BACK AT THE HOLIDAY CAMP BEING "ENTERTAINED" BY THE MIME ALONG WITH NUMEROUS OTHER KIDS.]
[BACK AT ASHDENE RIDGE, KAZIMA ENTERS THE LOUNGE AND PICKS UP A WALKIE TALKIE.]
Kazima: (into the walkie talkie) Hello? Hello? Anyone there? (to herself) Thought not. Sweet, sweet peace and quiet.
[SHE PUTS DOWN THE WALKIE TALKIE.]
[BACK AT THE HOLIDAY CAMP, TEE, FED UP, GETS UP FROM THE MIME SHOW TO LEAVE.]
Max: (to Maz, outside the ladies toilet) Maz! Coast is clear.
[MAZ COMES OUT OF THE TOILET.]
Max: Although, I think we might have a little bit of a problem.
[MAZ GLANCES AT TEE.]
[AT ASHDENE RIDGE, KAZIMA IS IN THE LOUNGE READING A BOOK. SHE HEARS THE DOOR SLAM AND TEE WALKS INTO THE LOUNGE.]
Tee: (taking off her purse) That mime was so scary. Oh, and Johnny rang. I had to lie.
Kazima: (grabs a bun to eat) As long as we're back by five, everything's cool.
Tee: Are there any of those left?
Kazima: Only one.
Tee: You ate them all?
Kazima: Not all of them. (finishes bun) Not yet anyway.
[THEY BOTH DART INTO THE KITCHEN, TAKING DIFFERENT ROUTES. TEE GETS THERE FIRST AND OPENS THE FRIDGE.]
Tee: Ha, loser!
Kazima: I let you win.
Tee: Oh, sure you did.
Kazima: Anyway, enough sport for today.
Tee: Who's that?
Kazima: I don't know, but, we're not answering it.
Kazima: Course not - we're not meant to be here.
[THERE IS A MOMENT OF SILENCE.]
Kazima: See, they've gone.
Tee: Yeah, you're right, I mean if we weren't here, we wouldn't be able to answer it anyway, would we?
Kazima: Yeah. I think.
[THERE IS A LOUD THUD.]
Tee: What was that?
[KAZIMA TAKES TEE BY THE HAND AND THEY HIDE BEHIND A WALL, PEERING AT WHAT'S HAPPENING OUTSIDE THE KITCHEN. THERE IS ANOTHER THUD.]
Kazima: Someone's breaking in.
[THE DOOR CREAKS OPEN AND THE GIRLS HIDE BEHIND THE WALL. MAX AND MAZ MAKE THEIR WAY INTO ASHDENE RIDGE.]
Max: (to Maz) Nobody answered, then (pauses) maybe Blondie's not here.
Maz: We saw her come in, dummy. You'd better be right about this.
[KAZIMA AND TEE HIDE BEHIND THE WORKTOP. MAZ AND MAX WALK INTO THE KITCHEN.]
Maz: We're not leaving 'til we grab her.
[THE GIRLS HIDE BEHIND THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORK TOP AS THE THIEVES WALK AROUND THE KITCHEN.]
Max: (spotting Mischief's bowl) Aww! They've got a dog, Maz. I hate dogs.
Maz: Shh! No names, alright!
Max: Sorry, Maz.
Maz: Urgh, you're not serious.
[THEY OPEN THE DOOR TO THE GARDEN AND EXIT THE KITCHEN. KAZ AND TEE PEER UP FROM BEHIND THE WORKTOP. THE GIRLS LOOK AT EACH OTHER AND SCARPER.]
[LATER, MAZ AND MAX ARE IN THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE THE QUIET ROOM.]
Max: Well that fixes that way out.
[MAZ ENTERS THE ROOM.]
Maz: So she's definitely inside.
[THE CAMERA PANS DOWN AND WE SEE KAZIMA AND TEE HIDING BEHIND THE SOFAS. MAX'S PHONE RINGS.]
Maz: Turn that off! We need to surprise her!
Max: (turns off phone) Sorry. Sorry.
Maz: Check everywhere downstairs. Soon as we find her, she can tell us where her mate took her bag.
[THE GIRLS HEAR THIS WITH INTEREST. THE THIEVES LEAVE AND SHUT THE DOOR TO THE QUIET ROOM.]
Tee: (whispering) They're talking about you. Kaz, what have you got in your bag?
Kazima: (whispering) Nothing.
Tee: (whispering) Great, so this is all your fault.
Kazima: (whispering) Look, forget that, where's your mobile?
Tee: (whispering) It's in the living room.
Kazima: (whispering and sarcastic) Oh, that's great, Tee!
Tee: (whispering) Where's yours?
Kazima: (whispering) The twins borrowed it, to play games on the minibus.
Tee: (whispering and sarcastic) Oh that's great, Kaz!
Kazima: (whispering) Look, in the office, there's a phone. Stay here, and I'll call the police, OK?
Tee: (whispering) Be quick.
Kazima: (whispering) OK.
[KAZ GETS UP. WE THEN SEE HER CRAWLING INTO THE OFFICE. SHE FINDS THE PHONE, BUT IT IS DEAD THANKS TO FLOSS LEAVING IT OFF THE HOOK AND THUS THE CORDLESS HANDSET RAN OUT OF POWER. KAZIMA PUTS IT DOWN. TEE HAS FOLLOWED KAZIMA AND HAS SEEN WHAT HAS HAPPENED.]
Tee: Oh that's flipping great!
Doll: (repeating Tee) Oh that's flipping great! Oh that's flipping great! Oh that's flipping great!
[MAX, INSIDE THE LAUNDRY ROOM, HEARS THE DOLL AND DARTS OUT OF THAT ROOM.]
Kazima: I said, stay put.
Doll: (repeating Kazima) I said, stay put.
[MAZ RUNS OUT OF THE LIVING ROOM AND MEETS UP WITH MAX IN THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE THE OFFICE.]
Doll: (repeating Kazima) I said, stay put. I said, stay put.
Maz: You hear that?
[MAX ENTERS THE OFFICE AND THE GIRLS SNEAK OUT THROUGH ANOTHER DOOR. MAZ FOLLOWS MAX INSIDE.]
Max: Where is she then?
Doll: (repeating Max) Where is she then? Where is she then?
[THE THIEVES NOTICE THE DOLL.]
Maz: Shut up.
Doll: (repeating Maz) Shut up. Shut up. Shut up.
[MAZ WALKS OVER TO THE DESK AND PUTS THE PHONE BACK ON THE CHARGER. SHE THEN PICKS UP A SET OF KEYS.]
Maz: And let's make absolutely sure, she isn't going anywhere.
Doll: (repeating Maz) And let's make absolutely sure, she isn't going anywhere.
[MAX NODS, AGREEING WITH MAZ.]
[IN THE KITCHEN, KAZIMA AND TEE MAKE THEIR WAY TO THE EXIT TO GARDEN, ONLY TO FIND MAX HAS TAKEN OFF THE DOORKNOB.]
Kazima: He removed it! He took it off!
Tee: We're trapped. What on earth was in that bag, Kaz?
Kazima: Let's try the windows.
[THE GIRLS WALK OVER TO A WINDOW, BUT IT IS LOCKED.]
Tee: Oh, I hate security.
[THE THIEVES WALK INTO THE HALL. MAX SLAMS THE DOOR TO THE OFFICE. KAZIMA GRABS TEE'S HEAD AND SHOVES HER DOWN. THE GIRLS CRAWL UNDER THE TABLE, WHICH CONVENIENTLY HAS BEEN DRAPED WITH TABLECLOTHS.]
Tee: (whispering) Why did you have to come home? Why couldn't you have just stayed at day centre and none of this would be happening?
Kazima: (whispering) If you hadn't noticed, you left the daycare centre as well.
Tee: (whispering) OK, so we speak to them. Just tell them they've got the wrong person.
Kazima: (whispering) Tee, they broke in. They're not nice people. Talking won't do a thing.
[THE GIRLS SHUFFLE ALONG UNDERNEATH THE TABLE AND KAZIMA ACCIDENTALLY PUSHES A BALL WITH HER FOOT THAT ROLLS ALONG THE GROUND. THE BALL CLATTERS, PROMPTING THE THIEVES TO RUSH INTO THE KITCHEN. THEY QUIETLY WALK OVER TO THE TABLE, MAZ TAKING THE LEAD AND TELLING MAX TO SHUSH. THEY TAKE OPPOSITE CORNERS AND PREPARE TO WHIP OFF THE TABLE CLOTH.]
Max: (mouthing) 1, 2, 3.
[THE THIEVES WHIP OFF THE TABLE CLOTH, ONLY TO FIND NO ONE.]
[HALLWAY. KAZIMA AND TEE HAVE MANAGED TO ESCAPE FROM THE KITCHEN THROUGH ANOTHER EXIT. THEY HAVE RUSHED TO THE FRONT DOOR, ONLY TO DISCOVER IT IS LOCKED.]
Tee: (whispering) It's locked.
Kazima: (whispering) What?
Tee: (whispering) Kaz, we can't get out!
Kazima: (whispering) Your phone, you said it was in the living room.
[THEY RUSH TO THE LIVING ROOM, BUT BEFORE THEY ENTER IT THEY HEAR THE THIEVES.]
Max (off camera): She's not here.
Maz (off camera): Go to the living room.
[THE GIRLS RUSH UP THE STAIRS.]
[KAZIMA AND CARMEN'S ROOM. THE GIRLS HAVE RUSHED INSIDE AND HAVE SHUT THE DOOR. PAUSING MOMENTARILY, TEE WALKS OVER TO GRAB KAZIMA'S BAG FROM HER BED.]
Kazima: (whispering) What are you doing?
Tee: (whispering) Your bag - your problem.
[KAZIMA TAKES HER BAG FROM TEE.]
Kazima: (whispering) Whatever, but we need to hide.
[SHE OPENS THE DOOR.]
[THE GIRLS EXIT THE BEDROOM. THE THIEVES COME UP THE STAIRS AND THE GIRLS GO TO THE ATTIC. KAZIMA SHUTS THE ATTIC DOOR.]
Kazima: (whispering) Where's the key?
[THE THIEVES WALK DOWN THE HALLWAY AS KAZIMA AND TEE FRANTICALLY SEARCH FOR THE KEY TO THE ATTIC DOOR. MAX FINDS THE DOOR LEADING UP TO THE ATTIC. TEE FINDS THE KEY.]
Tee: I've got it.
[MAX STARTS TO WALK UP THE STAIRS TO THE ATTIC. TEE TOSSES THE KEY TO KAZIMA WHO LOCKS THE DOOR.]
Tee: (breathes a sigh of relief)
[MAX FINDS THE DOOR TO THE ATTIC. HE TURNS THE DOORKNOB, BUT CANNOT GET IN BECAUSE THE DOOR IS LOCKED. HE THEN BASHES THE DOOR REPEATEDLY.]
Tee: (sighs, worried)
[MAZ FINDS MAX.]
Maz: It's locked, idiot!
Max: (kicks door) Might be locked from the inside.
Maz: So check if the key is in the lock. If it is, she's definitely in there.
[KAZIMA AND TEE HEAR THIS AND TEE SLOWLY REMOVES THE KEY FROM THE LOCK. MAX PEERS THROUGH THE KEYHOLE, BUT DOES NOT SEE THE GIRLS.]
Max: (pants) Room's empty. (pants)
[HE SHAKES HIS HEAD AND LOOKS AT MAZ.]
Maz: (gestures to go) Let's go.
[INSIDE THE ATTIC, TEE AND KAZIMA WALK FURTHER IN AND SIT DOWN OPPOSITE EACH OTHER.]
Tee: Open your bag.
Kazima: There's nothing in it.
Tee: Open it, Kaz!
[KAZIMA TAKES HER BAG OFF HER BACK, OPENS IT AND FINDS THE BROWN PACKAGE MAX PLANTED IN HER BAG.]
Tee: What is that? And why is in your rucksack?
Maz (off camera): Hey blondie! We know you're in the house. All we want is your friend. The one who took our package!
Kazima: Tee, I've never seen this before, I promise!
[SHE UNWRAPS THE PACKAGE AND TAKES OUT A WAD OF £20 NOTES.]
Tee: There must be thousands there.
Kazima: This isn't good. There's no way they're leaving without this.
Tee: Right, so we give it back to them.
Kazima: Are you crazy?
Tee: It is theirs.
Kazima: (sarcastic) Yeah, course it is! (normal) People hide their money in other people's bags all the time. It's obviously stolen, stupid!
Tee: Don't call me stupid. This is all your fault!
Kazima: And I'm dealing with it!
Tee: You call hiding up here dealing with it?
Kazima: (puts package back into bag) I'll think of something.
Tee: Well I've already thought of something. I'm going to give it back and pretend like none of this ever happened.
Kazima: You think it'll end there? I was hiding in a house once, back home. These men (pauses) broke in.
[MAX HAS ENTERED TEE'S BEDROOM AND STARTS PEEKING THROUGH THE DRAWERS.]
Kazima: I don't know who they were, but there was nothing my dad or my brother could say to make them go away.
[MAX CONTINUES HAVING A LOOK AT TEE'S ROOM.]
Kazima: There's no bargaining with them, Tee.
Max: 'Ere, look!
[MAX IS LOOKING AT A PHOTO OF TEE AND HER MUM. MAZ COMES TO THE BEDROOM DOOR.]
Maz: Put it down! We're looking for a person, not a photo.
[MAX SHOWS THE PHOTO TO MAZ.]
Max: This is Blondie!
[MAZ ENTERS THE ROOM AND TAKES THE PHOTO.]
Maz: Give me that.
Tee: OK. If we can't do that... (she gets up from the floor, walks over to a window and briefly opens it) Climb onto the roof. There's a drainpipe, we can shimmy down.
[TEE WALKS AWAY FROM THE WINDOW.]
Tee: If you're right, then they're gonna tear this place apart looking for their money. Including the attic, eventually.
Kazima: I said no!
Tee: But I think we can reach it.
Kazima: No, OK, no! I'm not going out there.
Tee: Kaz, this could be our only chance!
Kazima: You go then!
Tee: No, not without you. C'mon I know we can do this, move. (she tries to grab hold of Kazima, but Kazima shoves Tee's hand away)
Kazima: Let go, let go!
Kazima: I don't like heights.
Tee: You what?
Kazima: Why do you think I didn't want to go on the trip? They go on these rides that are miles high. Miles!
Tee: So why did we run up here?
Kazima: Look, you can escape. (Shrugging her shoulders) They don't even know I'm here.
Tee: (goes to sit down) No. (sits down) I'd probably (pauses) slip anyway.
[THERE IS AN AWKWARD SILENCE.]
[IN TEE'S BEDROOM, MAZ IS LOOKING THROUGH TEE'S PHOTOGRAPHS.]
Max: What exactly are we doing, now?
Maz: Don't you see what these kids are?
[MAX STARES AND SAYS NOTHING.]
Maz: This isn't a family home. They're in care!
Maz: So this stuff of hers, (mock pity) it probably means everything to her.
Kazima: We'll be alright.
Tee: Yeah I thought that once before. When I was a lot younger. There's no such thing as safe.
Kazima: What do you mean?
Tee: Never mind.
Kazima: I was only asking. We've got to stay up here for hours until Mike and the others get back.
Tee: I used to hide a lot. Johnny and I both did. (sniffs) My mum had this boyfriend - Keith. I used to curl up in a little ball somewhere, (sniffs) hoping he wouldn't find me. He had the worst temper ever. You didn't even know you'd done wrong (sniffs). One time I was (pauses) in the house (pauses), alone, and I could (sniffs) hear him pulling up outside. I don't know how old I was, but (sniffs) I knew if he found me, he'd go absolutely mental.
Kazima: Tee, you don't have to tell me this.
Tee: I never play hide and seek. And (sniffs) I know I'm old now, but, when I was young I never did ever. It's not the hiding part it's (sniffs and pauses) getting found. (sniffs) And that they're coming for you and there's nothing you can do.
[LOUD MUSIC STARTS PLAYING FROM ELSEWHERE IN THE HOUSE.]
Tee: What are they doing?
[IN TEE'S BEDROOM, MAX IS STARING AT THE MUSIC PLAYER, THEN MAZ TURNS IT OFF.]
Maz: We know who you are now! Tee!
Tee: Do you hear that?
Kazima: Don't panic! Don't say a word. They're trying to find out where you are.
Maz: (unintelligible) ...photos of mummy!
[SHE TEARS A PHOTO OF TEE AND HER MUM IN TWO.]
Tee: They're going through my things!
[TEE GETS UP, AS DOES KAZIMA. TEE GOES FOR THE DOOR BUT KAZ STOPS HER BY GRABBING HOLD OF HER.]
Kazima: Wait! Don't say a word, don't do anything!
Maz: Aw, it got ripped up! I hope you've got a good memory!
Kazima: Tee, it's a lie! She's just trying to get you to react, to come out!
Maz (off camera): Oh dear!
Tee: This is what he did! My mum's boyfriend, he went through my room and touched everything.
Kazima: She's just playing with you!
Tee: And what happens when they stop playing, Kaz?
[KAZIMA STOPS HOLDING ONTO TEE AND STARTS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ON A SHELF.]
Tee: What are you doing?
Kazima: We need a distraction. Open that window.
[TEE WALKS UP TO THE WINDOW AND GRABDS HOLD OF THE WINDOW LATCH.]
Tee: But I thought you were afraid of heights?
[KAZIMA HAS GRABBED HOLD OF A FISHING ROD.]
Kazima: That's why you're opening the window. Here.
[TEE PUSHES THE WINDOW OPEN AND KAZIMA HANDS TEE THE FISHING ROD.]
Kazima: Put it out.
[TEE STICKS THE ROD OUT THE WINDOW.]
[THE THIEVES ARE STILL IN TEE'S ROOM. A KNOCK IS HEARD AT THE FRONT DOOR.]
[WE THEN SEE FROM THE OUTSIDE THAT TEE IS USING THE BAIT AT THE END OF THE FISHING ROD TO KNOCK THE FRONT DOOR FROM THE OPEN ATTIC WINDOW.]
[THE THIEVES HEAR THIS FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE.]
Tee: Why are we doing this?
Kazima: To distract them, while we get out of this attic. (she walks away from Tee)
Tee: You know how we can get out?
Kazima: (searching for something) There's only one way to do that, and that's with a plan.
[TEE CONTINUES KNOCKING THE BAIT AGAINST THE FRONT DOOR.]
[THE THIEVES GO TO INVESTIGATE.]
Kazima: We need to show them that you mean business. (picks up something that rattles) That you're not some wimpy pushover.
Tee: Well what about you?
Kazima: (picks up bag) I'm not here, remember?
Tee: Well you sort of are.
Kazima: (picking up more things) Well they don't know that, which is our trump card.
Tee: (sarcastic) Great.
[KAZIMA WALKS OVER TO ANOTHER PLACE IN THE ATTIC TO PICK UP SOME MORE THINGS.]
Tee: (normal) I think.
Kazima: (picks up a couple things, including a water pistol) We soften them up. We divide, and conquer!
[TEE NODS AT KAZIMA, SMILES, THEN LOOKS OUT THE WINDOW.]
[HALLWAY. THE THIEVES ARE NOW ON THE GROUND FLOOR. MAZ IS LISTENING TO THE FRONT DOOR, TRYING TO HEAR SOMETHING.]
Max: Who's out there Maz?
[MAZ RAISES HER RIGHT HAND TO TELL MAX TO SHUSH.]
[UPSTAIRS, KAZIMA, FOLLOWED BY TEE, WALKS OUT FROM THE DOOR TO THE HALL LEADING UP THE ATTIC AND WALKS DOWN THE UPSTAIRS HALLWAY. KAZIMA HAS DRESSED UP AS A SOLDIER, AND HAS ARMED HERSELF WITH A WATER PISTOL AND HAS DRESSED HERSELF WITH A BANDANA WEARING A WRESTLING BELT AND STRING AS BANDOLIERS.]
[TEE'S ROOM. IN-BETWEEN TAKES, TEE HAS WALKED IN FRONT OF KAZIMA, AND SHE ENTERS HER BEDROOM. KAZIMA IS IN THE HALLWAY BEHIND HER. TEE CROUCHES DOWN TO THE GROUND AND FINDS HER RUINED PHOTOGRAPHS. KAZIMA ENTERS. TEE, NOW WITH TEARS IN HER EYES, LOOKS UP AT KAZIMA.]
Tee: (whispers) They weren't kidding, were they?
Kazima: Tee, I'm so sorry.
[TEE LOOKS DOWN AT HER PHOTOS AGAIN.]
Tee: (whispers) This isn't on.
Kazima: No. No it's not. (she closes the door).
Tee: (whispers) Do you know what they've done? They've made me very angry. (she starts getsup from the floor) They're not getting their money back, (sniffs) and they're not getting away. You see, they think they've trapped us in here with them. But they're wrong. They're trapped in here with us, Kaz.
Kazima: (whispers) Exactly. If they wanted easy targets, they've come to the wrong house.
[KAZIMA TAKES A WALKIE TALKIE OUT FROM A POCKET.]
Kazima: (growls like a dog)
[TEE GETS AN "ODD" LOOK ON HER FACE.]
[THE CAMERA CUTS TO THE LOUNGE AND ZOOMS TO THE OTHER WALKIE TALKIE (THE ONE KAZIMA WAS TALKING INTO EARLIER IN THE EPISODE).]
Max: (looking around in panic) I told you there was a dog!
Kazima: (continues growling like a dog)
[CARTOON ANIMATION. KAZIMA AND TEE ARE HOLDING ONTO A LONG DOG LEASH.]
Dog (off camera): (growls)
[THE CAMERA THEN MOVES OVER TO SHOW A GIANT GREY DOG AT THE OTHER END OF THE LEASH, SCARING MAX. MAX JUMPS OUT OF THE WINDOW, BUT THE DOG BREAKS OFF FROM HIS LEASH AND LEAPS AFTER MAX, BASHING A HOLE IN THE WALL, LEAVING BEHIND RUBBLE.]
[THE CAMERA MOVES BACK OVER TO THE GIRLS, NOW SITTING ON THE FLOOR, ASTONISHED. THEY BRIEFLY LOOK AT EACH OTHER, THEN AT THE HOLE IN THE WALL. THE ANIMATION ENDS.]
Max: It's downstairs!
[MAX DARTS UP THE STAIRS. MAZ, WHO WAS IN THE DINING ROOM, OPENS ONE OF THE DOORS.]
[TEE'S BEDROOM. KAZIMA HOLDS UP A BAG OF MARBLES, SHOWING IT TO TEE.]
Kazima: (whispering) Ever tried walking on marbles? It's surprisingly difficult.
[A CARTOON ANIMATION PLAYS. TEE, NOW AT THE STEPS, LOOKS AT THE BAG OF MARBLES, THEN GETS A SNEAKY LOOK ON HER FACE AND DROPS THE MARBLES DOWN THE STAIRS. MAX TRIES TO WALK UP THE STAIRS, BUT ENDS UP STEPPING ON THE MARBLES AND IS SENT FALLING BACK DOWN TO THE GROUND FLOOR. THE ANIMATION ENDS.]
[HALLWAY. MAX IS LYING ON THE FLOOR CLUTCHING HIS LEG.]
Max: That really hurt Maz!
Maz: It was meant to.
[MAZ IS HOLDING THE WALKIE-TALKIE FROM EARLIER.]
Maz: (talking into the walkie talkie) Woof woof.
[TOP OF THE STAIRS. KAZIMA SMILES AT SEEING TEE RETURN FROM POURING MARBLES DOWN THE STAIRS.]
[LOUNGE. MAX PICKS HIMSELF UP FROM THE GROUND, BUT IS STILL IN PAIN FROM HIS LEG.]
[HE LIMPS INTO THE LOUNGE.]
[BATHROOM. TEE LOCK THE DOOR, WHILE KAZIMA IS CROUCHING OVER ON THE FLOOR.]
Maz (off camera through walkie talkie): You'll have to do better than that.
Tee: (whispers) Now what?
Kazima: (whispers) Now they know you mean business. It's time for phase 2.
Tee: (whispers) Divide...
Kazima: (whispers) ...and conquer! Exactly!
[LOUNGE. MAX IS SITTING ON A SOFA.]
Max: Can't we just go home, Maz?
Maz: That's ten grand! We're not leaving without it!
Tee: (talking through the walkie-talkie) Hey are you there? That got your attention? Only I've been thinking and (pauses) I'm not giving the bag back.
Maz: (talking to walkie-talkie) Well you will! Eventually!
Tee: (into walkie-talkie) Well you'll never find it. You might as well leave now.
Maz (off camera through walkie-talkie): Good idea...
Maz: ...we're going now. Bye.
Tee: There'll be people coming back soon. (pauses) Loads of people.
Maz: Like I believe that.
[MAX IS STILL NURSING HIS LEG.]
Maz: (to Max) I'll keep her talking. You go find where she's hiding.
[MAX GRIMACES AT THE THOUGHT OF HAVING TO WALK ON HIS HURT LEG.]
Maz: Follow her voice, and then grab her.
[MAX NODS AND GETS UP.]
Max: (pants) You sure there's not a dog up there?
[MAZ GLARES AT MAX.]
[UPSTAIRS HALLWAY. MAX IS LIMPING.]
Tee (off camera): What you did to my photos was a big mistake. They meant the world to me. But of course, people like you wouldn't understand that.
[MAX SMILES, THINKING HE HAS DISCOVERED WHERE TEE IS HIDING. HE WALKS TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE ATTIC.]
Tee (off camera): Coz you don't respect what other people have.
[MAX PREPARES TO OPEN THE DOOR.]
Tee (off camera): You just want to steal it.
[MAX OPENS THE DOOR AND WALKS INTO THE ATTIC.]
Tee (off camera): You're just a thief.
[MAX WALKS OVER TO A SHELF.]
Tee (off camera): Someone who doesn't value anything. Am I right?
[MAX PEERS AT AN OBJECT ON THE SHELF - IT IS A TAPE RECORDER, TEE'S VOICE HAS BEEN COMING OUT OF IT, AND THAT IS WHAT MAX HAS BEEN FOLLOWING! SEEING THAT MAX HAS FALLEN FOR THE BAIT, KAZIMA, WHOM MAX DID NOT SPOT, WALKS TOWARD THE DOOR.]
Tee (off camera, recording): I bet I am. I bet no even likes you.
[KAZIMA EXITS, SHUTS THE DOOR AND LOCKS IT. MAX LIMPS OVER TO THE DOOR. HE TURNS THE DOORKNOB AND FAILS TO OPEN THE DOOR. HE THEN KNOCKS IT, REPEATEDLY.]
[UPSTAIRS HALLWAY, KAZIMA ROUNDS A CORNER AND FINDS TEE.]
Tee: (whispers) And conquered.
Kazima: Let's get the other one. Are you sure you're up for this?
Tee: (whispers) Of course.
[THE GIRLS START WALKING DOWN THE HALLWAY.]
Kazima: OK. She's smart which means she's dangerous.
Tee: (whispers) Yeah, but she tore up my photos.
[TOP OF THE STAIRS. KAZIMA AND TEE CROUCH DOWN AND PEER THROUGH THE BANNISTERS.]
Tee: (whispers) Can't see her. (off camera, as we now have a POV shot of the ground floor from the stairs) Or hear her. Where is she, do you think we scared her off?
Kazima: (whispers) I dunno. Follow the plan and we'll be OK.
Tee: (whispers) My phone's in the living room.
Kazima: (whispers) Take care, Tee.
Tee: (whispers) OK, stay here, because if she's here, we're going to need to get her. (she gets up)
Kazima: (whispers) OK.
[TEE WALKS DOWN THE STAIRS AND KAZIMA CONTINUES PEERING THROUGH THE BANNISTERS.]
[TEE ENTERS THE LOUNGE. MAZ IS NOT THERE.]
[TEE OPENS THE DOORS TO THE DINING ROOM. SHE SHUTS THE DOORS CONNECTING THE DINING ROOM TO THE LOUNGE AND ENTERS THE DINING ROOM. TEE STARTS WALKING THROUGH THE ROOM WHERE SHE HEARS A DOOR CLOSE. TEE TURNS AROUND.]
Tee: Look if you're out there you might as well give up. (Hearing no reply, she turns around and cautiously walks around the worktop) I've hidden your money!
[SHE OPENS THE DOOR TO THE HALLWAY, ENTERS IT AND CLOSES THE DOOR BEHIND HER. TEE WALKS TOWARD THE OFFICE. SHE BRIEFLY HEARS CREAKING STAIRS AND WE HAVE A POV SHOT OF HER BRIEFLY LOOKING UPWARD, ONLY TO SEE NOTHING. SHE CONTINUES TO THE OFFICE. SHE LOOKS BRIEFLY AT THE LOUNGE THROUGH THE OTHER DOOR. SHE THEN GOES TO THE OFFICE DESK, PICKS UP THE PHONE AND DIALS IT, ONLY FOR THE LINE TO BE DEAD.]
[TEE STEPS OUT INTO THE HALLWAY.]
Maz (off camera): Hello, Tee.
[TEE TURNS AROUND. MAZ IS STANDING BEHIND HER.]
Tee: I, er...thought you'd run off.
Maz: Where's my money.
Tee: Look, please don't hurt me, I'll promise I'll show you where it is.
Maz: Oh I know you will.
[TEE OPENS THE DOOR TO THE DINING ROOM. SHE AND MAZ ENTER.]
Tee: Bag's in there. (she is referring to the laundry room)
Maz: How did it get in there?
Tee: (shrugs) Been in there the whole time.
Maz: (unconvinced) Really.
Maz: So how did you get the bag?
Tee: What do you mean?
Maz: Your friend had it. I just needed you to tell me where she was.
Tee: Oh, er, well...
Maz: She's here, isn't she?
Tee: (shakes head) No.
Maz: Behind that door, maybe?
[A CARTOON ANIMATION. MAZ PEERS THROUGH THE DOOR. TEE IS STANDING BEHIND HER AND SHE SHOVES HER OVER.]
[MAZ FALLS DOWN A HOLE IN THE GROUND AND INTO A POOL OF WATER WITH SHARKS. TEE, NOW WITH A "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" LOOK ON HER FACE, SHUTS THE DOOR. THE ANIMATION ENDS AND WE RETURN TO THE DINING ROOM.]
Maz: Tell you what. You can open that door.
Maz: You got Max, and now you think you can get me?
[TEE OEPNS THE DOOR TO THE LAUNDRY ROOM. SHE WALKS IN. MAZ WATCHES.]
Tee: It's not a trap.
[MAZ WALKS INTO THE LAUDNRY ROOM. SHE DOES NOT SEE KAZIMA COME FROM BEHIND HER, HOLDING A NET.]
Maz: (angry) So where's my money?
[KAZIMA HURLS THE ROPE AT MAZ'S FEET TO TIE HER UP. TEE SMILES AND GRABS A CHAIR.]
Maz: (yelling) Ah! Ah!
Kazima: (takes out a water gun at fires it at Maz) This is a trap!
[MAZ FALL ONTO THE CHAIR.]
Maz: Quick, ah!
[KAZIMA TAKES OUT THE NET AND COVERS MAZ WITH IT.]
[TEE HAS GRABBED BROWN PARCEL TAPE AND KAZ STARTS SPINNING THE CHAIR, ALLOWING TEE TO TAPE THE NET TO MAZ.
Maz: Ah! Ah!
Tee: Spin it Kaz!
Maz: Let me go!
[THE GIRLS CONTINUE TAPING MAZ]
Maz: Ah! Ah! Ah! Urgh! Urgh! Ahurghah!
[TEE LOOKS AS THOUGH SHE'S LAUGHING, BUT WE DO NOT HEAR HER LAUGH.]
[OUTSIDE OF ASHDENE RIDGE. A PAIR OF POLICEMEN DRAG MAZ AND MAX OUT THE FRONT DOOR. KAZIMA AND TEE STEP OUT AS WELL.]
Police radio: (inaudbile chatter)
[A WHITE MINIBUS BEING DRIVE BY MIKE CARRYING THE OTHER DG KIDS ARRIVES.]
Tee: Oh no.
[AN ANNOYED MIKE STEPS OUT OF THE BUS. THE OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE CAN BE SEEN GAWKING THROUGH THE WINDOWS. MAY-LI AND JOHNNY (HAVING EXITED THROUGH DOORS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MINIBUS) STEP OUT FROM BEHIND THE FENCE.]
May-Li: (trying to talk to the policemen) Woah, woah, woah, what's going on? What's this?
[THE POLICEMEN IGNORE HER AND CARRY ON REGARDLESS. WE ZOOM IN ON THE MINIBUS WINDOWS AND THE OTHER KIDS ARE STILL GAWKING.]
Kazima: Why are you back so early?
Mike: (walking up the girls, Johnny following him) We had a call from the day centre. You disappeared!
Johnny: Yeah, cheers for that. Closest we got to go on any of the rides was standing in a long queue.
Mike: And which of you numbskulls would care to explain this, hm? (he cocks his head)
[OFFICE. MIKE IS LEANING ON A DIVIDER BETWEEN THE DESKS WITH HIS ARMS FOLDED. MAY-LI IS STANDING OPPOSITE MIKE WITH HER ARMS FOLDED. KAZIMA AND TEE ARE STANDING IN FRONT OF ONE OF THE DOORS.]
Mike: Any idea what could've happened to the both of you?
[THE GIRLS HAVE NOTHING TO SAY.]
Mike: Look, if somebody like that breaks into a house, you...you don't confront them. You let them take whatever it is that they want, and as soon as they've left, you call the police, because, strangely... (he goes to sit in his seat)
Doll: (copying Mike) You call the police, because, strangely.
Mike: Catching criminals (he sits) is their job.
Doll: (copying Mike) Catching criminals is their job.
[TEE GRINS. MAY-LI IS NOT AMUSED AND LOOKS AT THE DOLL.]
Doll: (copying Mike) Catching criminals...
[MIKE GRABS THE DOLL.]
Doll: (copying Mike) ...is their job.
[MIKE DROPS THE DOLL ONTO THE GROUND]
Doll: (copying Mike) Catching criminals (voice deepens and stops on being dropped) is their job.
[KAZIMA AND TEE GRIN.]
May-Li: Well it's certainly not yours.
Mike: And not because of you two plonkers, all the others have lost out.
[TEE LOOKS AT THE CEILING. KAZIMA LOOKS AT TEE. MAY-LI TURNS TO MIKE.]
May-Li: Actually, Mike...
[MIKE TWITCHES HIS EYEBROWS.]
[DAY CENTRE. KAZIMA AND TEE ARE SITTING IN AN AUDIENCE WITH OTHER CHILDREN AS THE MIME "ENTERTAINS THEM". THEY ARE ALL BORED AND NOT AMUSED. MIKE IS IN THE AUDIENCE AS WELL AND HAS FALLEN ASLEEP. THE OTHER DG KIDS ARE IN THE AUDIENCE AS WELL AND ARE NOT AMUSED. THE MIME CROUCHES NEXT TO KAZIMA AND TEE AND MOCKS THEM FOR NOT ENJOYING THEMSELVES.]
